It’s funny how different life stages allow you to discover different things about yourself. In 2017 for the first time, I moved out of my family home and into a small 1-bedroom flat in Sea Point. I now had a blank canvas and a chance to make a house a home – on a budget, of course. Good thing I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty because second-hand chic quickly became my new best friend. And the things I couldn’t find but wanted, I made myself or designed and had specially made. My intrinsic flair for antiques and mixing old with new to create trendy pieces definitely came to life in this home-making experiment. (This young girl has an old soul yo’). Through this, I ignited my love for creating and sourcing beautiful things.
Thinking back, I have always loved a little challenge, from sourcing things from obscure places to going to the hidden parts of town to find the missing part of a puzzle. If I could go back and study again, I would want to study to become a “sourcer” or “sourcist” – but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t exist. And I’m pretty sure that’s something you don’t study, but stumble upon.
There’s something quite magical about making your little space in the world look unique and considered. Little details that make it just right for you and your partner or family. That’s what I am hoping to encourage with my brand… a chance to inspire humans alike to breathe easy, knowing that their house-shaped sanctuary feels comfortable and looks damn good!
